American Robin - Bear Creek Park in Houston, TX |
Welcome and thanks for hanging out with me! What does someone say
about themselves??? Ok, I'm a 50+ year old woman who is definitely not ashamed
of her age...as a matter of fact I was thrilled to make it to 50 as that's darn
better than the alternative right?! I have two grown children who are my
world! Then there is my "heart dog" Max. He's got a
rather fascinating story of how he came to be my favorite pup in the world -
but I'll save that for later. While I wasn't born in Houston, Texas I've
lived here since about age 12 so that pretty much qualifies as a native
Houstonian :). My thoughts are that this blog could allow people to
search my blog and see what they might want to see and know about Houston or
maybe for those visiting Houston and I can be somewhat of a virtual tour guide.
I'm also very interested in photography and years ago I broke down and
treated myself to a Canon Rebel T31 but sadly, until now just honestly haven't
made the time to learn how to use it. Now, I'm on a mission to become a
good photographer and begin lessons this month on a casual basis. In a
nutshell, that's a little about me.
I love to get feedback as long as it is G rated and nothing
inappropriate.
Feel free to ask questions or ask if I will visit a place nearby
and I will if possible.
Some of my Favorite Quotes or Sayings:
Be The Change You Wish To
See In The World
Let Your Little Light
Shine
You're Not Going To Know
Unless You Try It
What Would You Attempt To
Do If You Knew You Couldn't Fail
Be
kind to one another (Ellen)
In my searching long ago
about quotes, I learned this piece of trivia...apparently "Be the change
you wish to see in the world" was not the actual quote from Gandhi but was
paraphrased by the actual quote in 1913 from Vol. 13, Chapter 13, Page 241
(Either way..I like both versions)
"We but mirror the world.
All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of
our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also
change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world
change towards him. This is the divine mystery supreme. A wonderful thing it is
and the source of our happiness. We need not wait to see what others do."
Just a FEW of my Favorite Books
and Authors:
Mark Bittner - The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill (What a wonderful
story! My Dad and Son also are big fans of this book!!) Very touching!!
J.C. Hutchins - 7th Son: Descent (this is a super and good hearted guy
who did a podiocast that my daughter and I listened to faithfully every day
when we used to carpool, I've had various email conversations with him too and
it just doesn't get nicer than him! - great read too!)
Again, just a few as I am definitively a big
reader!!!
Jonathan Carroll (and bonus..he's a
really nice guy too!) some of my favorite reads of his are:
Sleeping in The
Flame and Voice of Our Shadow but I've read all but 2 of his and
never had a dud!
Harlen Coben (very
entertaining at a book reading too!) I can't say that I have an all-time
favorite, but have read every single one of his books and love them all! If you
plan on reading his Myron Bolitar series I'd suggest starting in order. I would
have never read about a Sports Agent (not exactly my thing I thought), but my
Dad INSISTED I'd love it and Dad's book recommendations have always been
spot-on so thankfully I read one, then ALL!
Mariatu Kamara and Susan
McClelland - The Bite of The Mango - Actually I listened to the
Audiobook of this and what a powerful story of courage, determination and
strength!
Nicholas Sparks - Pretty
consistently good love stories
Lorena McCourtney -
Got turned on to her comical, older lady, mystery book with a free download
from Amazon on my Kindle

Orchestra, Point of Grace, Elton John, Queen, Weezer, Louis Armstrong, Addison
Road, Beyonce, Bob Seger, Carole King, Omega, Carrie Underwood, Cher Lloyd,
